Over a Month -- yikes

Added on by John Sturr.

It's been too long - I'll be working on that for the future.  I will say that I get delayed from posting as I copyright all images now.  So there is a 3-4 month delay after the photo is taken before I have a group to register etc.  And after the image is registered, then I can post.  Ugh --- I know... but that's the process.  Ok -- onward.

This image was taken with the newly repaired Rollei 6008i on Ilford Delta 400.  Home processed and scanned - and the scan is excellent.  The negative processed very flat and as always the flatter the better during the scan.

I really like this image and may print it 24"x24".

No crop.

SLC - with the P330

Added on by John Sturr.

Here's a grab shot with the pocketed Nikon P330 - in black and white mode.  It's a great photo when the light and situation matches the consumer gear really well.  I love this photo and the what camera captured.  As with all of my images - no crop.

the Bulldogs

Added on by John Sturr.

Shot in April on the Rollei 6008i before I sent it in for repair.  It arrives home on Wednesday;  I can't wait -- but I digress.  These two dogs are sisters -- Lola and Penelope.  We have the Lola and she's a barrel of fun, and Penelope is with my sister in-law.

Developed and scanned in-house.

The non-interesting becomes interesting.

Added on by John Sturr.

This is from my Rollei 6008i - a mid 1990's medium format 120 film camera.  I love it and this image shows what it rendered.  I recognized the great window light and the scene of the recently washed dishes.  I know right -- but, for me at least, the captured image I cannot stop looking at. The grays, blacks, and whites have perfect tones - and the film does it all justice.

Home developed and scanned on a Nikon LS-8000.

BW is unforgiving

Added on by John Sturr.

BW film or any film is always a bit of an event in discovering the result — and I guess that’s what keeps me coming back.

As I learned in my stats class years ago - there are some un-predictable parameters which don’t lend to a “sure thing” event.

I now see why, when those back in the day, shot film they were true artists of the time.  There was no preview - no chimping - no spray and pray.  A wedding photographer for hire had no choice but to get the shot - and I doubt any had “errors and omissions” insurance if they didn’t.  And if you didn’t get it - then - a world of hurt your had to face with the client.

The capture is the easiest - film selection defined your style - and predicting exposure with limited frames determined your profits.  And I haven’t even brought about the challenges of flash.

This is downtown SLC - a scene of the sun peaking during just the right time of the morning.  BW with this golden light is a challenge - where color becomes dramatic and a no brainer - BW is unforgiving.
