a Sense of Order

Added on by John Sturr.

Whenever I'm looking I trie to See.  I try to build the frame in my mind and that is hit or miss and sometimes it comes easily and sometimes not at all.  Sometimes it's the weather, the mood, my mood, the people I'm with, or the needs of the dog when I'm walking her -- yadda, yadda, yadda..

Ok -- so you get the point -- sometimes it happens, and sometimes it just doesn't... no matter how hard you try.

But -- there are times when a scene just grabs you -- and that's when I have to get the shot.  And during those times if I don't get the shot then I become obsessed and really bummed I didn't make the image.

So -- here's what I'm getting at -- while walking the dog with my wife this scene caught my eye and I took it hand held on the Nikon F100 with 400 ASA Ilford.  And -- I love this image.  The whole lesson here is while your looking try to see - try to see the superimposed frame in front of you - and sometimes that comes easily, and some times - it just doesn't.

the Scene

Added on by John Sturr.

I'm always trying to see thru the ordinary and capture something which will look good as a photo.  Something which sparks an interesting thought or glance to want to see more.  Getting all of this to work - is really quite a task to accomplish.  Black and White can add something - as would color if the scene is met.  But when it does become evident and the picture does become - it can be magical.

Streetwalk

Added on by John Sturr.

Last Fall I would walk the neighborhood with Lola the English Bulldog and my Nikon F100.  Every once in a while a scene would appear - or - better said - I would will a scene to be captured.  Every photo - every frame - is a stretch of sanity without slapping the shutter release of pure hope something would eventually develop.  And develop is correct as I'm shooting film here -- but I'll stop babbling -- this is what I got in the window of the Architectural firm.

Hagerman

Added on by John Sturr.

This was in Hagerman Idaho.  It was one of those days where I had the time to shoot but I had to dig really deeply to find anything -- really -- anything to shoot.  I walked out side from the house - about 100 yards away and this scene appeared.  And I decided to make it work and capture it as best as i could manage.  Shot on Portra 400 with the Nikon F100.

Whew -- it's been awhile...

Added on by John Sturr.

Time to catch up on some previous images.  This was taken this last summer in the western part of the city - toward the West Valley area.  There are times when upon driving around you recognize the Sun is just perfect but no camera in hand - so don't forget that time frame and venture back when the conditions repeat - with the camera.  I did just that one Saturday evening and was able to capture the color of this scene.

Fuji Acros - 100 iso

Added on by John Sturr.

I've recently discovered this Acros Fuji stock -- and OMG -- it's of my favorite now.  I wish Fuji still made the 400iso as it only comes in 100 stock.  Image was taken on the overlook at Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.  The weather was cold and crazy windy for a day in September.  But - it all worked out just fine.

Hold the Line !

Added on by John Sturr.

"Three weeks from now, I will be harvesting my crops. Imagine where you will be, and it will be so.

Hold the line!

Stay with me!

If you find yourself alone, riding in the green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled. For you are in Elysium, and you’re already dead!"

SLC - with the P330

Added on by John Sturr.

Here's a grab shot with the pocketed Nikon P330 - in black and white mode.  It's a great photo when the light and situation matches the consumer gear really well.  I love this photo and the what camera captured.  As with all of my images - no crop.

Shot with the Nikon 1 V1 and the 30-110mm. - I know -- digital... how weird ?!?

It's been a while ...

Added on by John Sturr.

Yes -- it has -- between getting the Rollei 6008i worked on, and keeping in mind and getting the needed copyright registration for any new images, too much time has past.  Well -- I'll make it up.

This is a digital image - shot from the Buss stop and of the Harmon's grocery store facade.  It's really abstract - and I love it.

The non-interesting becomes interesting.

Added on by John Sturr.

This is from my Rollei 6008i - a mid 1990's medium format 120 film camera.  I love it and this image shows what it rendered.  I recognized the great window light and the scene of the recently washed dishes.  I know right -- but, for me at least, the captured image I cannot stop looking at. The grays, blacks, and whites have perfect tones - and the film does it all justice.

Home developed and scanned on a Nikon LS-8000.
