The Capitol of Utah in Salt Lake City - I would imagine there will be a flurry of activity there this week during the swearing in of Biden in D.C.

Shot on the Washington Beach - I'm not one for centering the frame, but in this case everything fit to where there was no other option.
No crop - shot with the Rollei 6008i of which is an amazing result when you get it right upon capture.

Every once in a while I get reminded that great glass is not only a gift but it's a necessity. It's a necessity in order to separate you from everyone else - it's a necessity to give your images the power of a compelling view. Get great lenses - even if it's just one - get one - and shoot that system like you are going to die tomorrow.

Nikon F100 with Fujifilm Acros 100 - Stand Development 5% Rodinal - scanned 35mm
M and I and her parents ventured on a cruise around the Italian peninsula this last September. I was really torn as to what photographic equipment to take on this trip. I have many choices to consider - Nikon D3s, Nikon 1v1, Nikon F100, Sony Nex-7, Rollei 6008i and the YashicaMat 124g - I brought the Sony Nex-7 and the YashicaMat 124g after much deliberation between all.
The black and white was Fuji Acros 100 - my favorite as of late - purchased during the discontinuation of Fall 2018 - but it’s coming back as a II series. I develop using a Stand in Rodinal @ 5% with a 60 minute burn. I may experiment with an Xtol dilution soon as from what I’ve seen online that may be a bit richer result.
The YashicaMat124g performed well - but always bring extra batteries just in case. Mine were getting a bit long in the tooth it seeemd. And - gear surprises aren’t any fun when traveling.
I mistakenly scanned the above as a BW - and it surprised me how well it turned out. Typically I stay true to the nuances of the format and I don’t vary from that - but this time the image just pops so much better as BW - I like it much better.
Sometimes - it pays to experiment and take the easy shot - maybe it’s the shot right in front of you - maybe you are walking the dog and you can pull up the camera and see what happens after you hit the shutter release.
That’s exactly what I did with this capture. My wife and I were walking the dog - I had a fast f1.4, 50mm - and I set it up and hoped for the best. I couldn’t have expected the result - oh - and this was on film - so I had no idea what would eventually happen.

This was a grab shot - as most of my images are - M and Violet. One of the last of Violet as we put her down on July 1. Her diabetes got the best of her for the last year - yep - 12 months of shots twice a day. She was a Maine Coon and was an amazing animal we had for 10 years.

Here is a favorite of late - shot this summer on Fuji Acros 100 in downtown Salt Lake City - and upon development and scanning this image really impressed me. It as minimalist and intense all at the same time. I'm happy with it for the whole workflow which entailed to make it this far - the even of capture, the development, the scan and the upload. As I said in the blog post before this - when it all comes together the experience is without peer.

I'm always trying to see thru the ordinary and capture something which will look good as a photo. Something which sparks an interesting thought or glance to want to see more. Getting all of this to work - is really quite a task to accomplish. Black and White can add something - as would color if the scene is met. But when it does become evident and the picture does become - it can be magical.

A cafe was just outside the historic area of New Orleans on the remodeled area of the "strip". Yet the signage looked really dated and graphically wonderful. Fuji Acros - no Crop.
Rollei 6008i - Fuji Acros 100 - New Orleans
A March trip to New Orleans, where I shot a bunch of medium format Fuji Acros 100. That city and the old town area is really quite something to capture. As with all of my work - no crop.
This was shot last Summer on Acros 100 and processed with a "Stand" development. The stand is not only very convenient - the gradation between whites and blacks is crazy rich, deep and contrasty. My eye screams for more when all comes out very well. This scene was with the Rollei 6008 Integral and the kit lens. When everything comes together / the planets align / film becomes a magical endeavor - even if only you see it as such. What do I mean by this: Film needs to be stored to stay fresh - in a fridge; the film is exposed and the image can't be confirmed as being "good"; the film is developed - weird stuff can happen during development; film is then scanned and processed etc. There are so many steps to where all can really, very easily, go to hell.
But I digress -- this capture turned out great !!
Fuji Acros 100 - Stand Development - Rollei 6008 Integral
I've recently discovered this Acros Fuji stock -- and OMG -- it's of my favorite now. I wish Fuji still made the 400iso as it only comes in 100 stock. Image was taken on the overlook at Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. The weather was cold and crazy windy for a day in September. But - it all worked out just fine.
