Jackson Hole Wyoming

Added on by John Sturr.

A grab shot - as most of mine are - from 2020 Aug, of my in-laws prepping their gear for the walk to the river. I can’t remember if this was the Rollei or the Yashica - but for some reason I’m thinking it was the Yashica 124G as it’s a bit easier to travel with. We were on the edge of the Teton National Park.

Developed by “theFindLab” - which is really rare for me as I’ve developed my own. But — the rolls really started to pile up and I used the quick but pay thru the nose option.

This was the same week of which my Mother in-law was bucked off of a horse and broke 13 ribs. She’s lucky to have survived - but - that’s a whole other story.

Washington Coast

Fuji Acros 100

Shot on the Washington Beach - I'm not one for centering the frame, but in this case everything fit to where there was no other option.

No crop - shot with the Rollei 6008i of which is an amazing result when you get it right upon capture.

Fuji Across 100 in a Stand with Rodinal @5% with a 60 minute burn. Scanned on a Nikon LS-8000 legacy scanner at 4000 dpi.

No people here - which is a bit unusual were this beach attracts quite the people crowd.

the Flowers - StandDev

Added on by John Sturr.

I have about 20 rolls of film to process and this last weekend I started to dig in - and the fruits of the labor always reignites the spark to keep on - keeping on…

Shot on the Rollei 6008i - and I realize why I keep using this wonderful beast of a camera - in FuijiFilms’s Acros 100 in a Rodinal Stand @ 5% for 60 minutes. Ok — that was a mouthful if you even care that much - it’s good to care though as it provides context to the craft. The Acros 100 is the first generation.

Oh — and scanned on a legacy Nikon LS-8000 @ 4000dpi - totally native mind you … Boom…. double Boom.

a Favorite

Added on by John Sturr.

Here is a favorite of late - shot this summer on Fuji Acros 100 in downtown Salt Lake City - and upon development and scanning this image really impressed me.  It as minimalist and intense all at the same time.  I'm happy with it for the whole workflow which entailed to make it this far - the even of capture, the development, the scan and the upload.  As I said in the blog post before this - when it all comes together the experience is without peer.

Fuji Acros 100 - self developed and scanned - Salt Lake City, Utah.

The bridge

Added on by John Sturr.

I’m back on 120 film with this image.  Shot in December at the University of Utah bridge.  I didn’t take notes of what I shot it with but I would bet it was the Yashicamat 124G.

Only recently have I had the battery re-built on the Rollei 6008 - so I’ll be posting what I’ve shot with that much more in the future.  That Rollei is a gem now !

Holgamods 612 Pan

Added on by John Sturr.

I’ve been off the net for a while.  Last weekend, always an emotional event (see my March 28th post, been there done that), and i picked up a new camera and that had my attention also.

Since shooting film I’ve been fascinated with going with a bigger negative.  But - with that comes economies of scale and I haven’t wanted to quite approach that subject.  Instead I decided to pursue staying with 120 - and that means going wider.

Enter the Holga Holgamod 612 Pan.  Developed by Randy Smith of www.holgamods.com - he takes a HolgaPan and mounts a large format 90mm f6.8 lens and all you have a stunning capable panoramic camera shooting a 6cm x 12cm negative.

Here’s a test image - on Ilford HP5+ @f32 - and a video I put together of the camera.

Ektar 100

Added on by John Sturr.

I don't have much experience with Kodak's Ektar.  I've seen all the advertisements and I've heard all the hype.  Everything is true -- great for landscapes on desert islands - and you can't get away from the reds in the skintones.  The grain is really tight - be sure to nail your focus with great light and you may just have a winner.

This is 120 -- on the Yashica Mat 124G.  120 Format is gripping.
