Looking South.
Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting images from my return home to Pentwater Michigan.
It’s a sleepy resort town on the Eastern shores of Lake Michigan.
This image is off the North pier looking West. I’ve never seen this area so empty during a Summer day - be it Labor Day weekend.
I went superwide - 6.7-13mm with the V1 - and when you get the image; you know it.

I'm a sucker when stuff just seems to sneak up on me - as I was driving thru the West Desert towards Wendover, NV last weekend, the near by rest stop surprised me with these flying concrete roof forms.
I'm really happy with how this turned out.
Shot with the Nikon 1 - 6.7-13mm, lens correction in LR 5, and a slight crop and a boost in color to bring out the film like aspect of the two.

This is a different perspective of the Arch. When everyone is crowding a public space I always have a craving to find a different view. The clouds were perfect that day.

This is where the 6.7-13mm really shines -- when it's big -- you need wide -- really wide.
I will say this though - wide will kick your ass. And the funny thing is - it gets kicked in Post - never when you on site. For some reason, everything always looks good in frame - never does it look like trash until you get it up on screen. And then it is a palm to the forehead moment.
Bam -- that is when you see the wide angle skew. The safe zone is always when you are 90 Deg. to the subject - always.

Some of my favorites of today's visit to Adobe's campus in Lehi.

BW convert with SEfex2 and lens corrected with LR5 - lens correction is the only weakness of Nikon's software.

3rd floor of the Moran Eye. Whenever I'm there I can't get over the dramatic view where this facility is nicknamed the "Palace" of those who visit who are in the professional eye community.

Testing out the new 6.7-13mm Nikon on the 1 V1.
Equivalent in 35mm it's a 18mm-35mm.
So - for some 18mm isn't very super wide - but for this sensor and considering it is a 6.7mm lens - well - it really is.
Converted in ViewNX2 to .tiff and then corrected in LR5.

Rarely do I put the subject in the center of the frame - but when I shoot super wide, the combination of the two, with the right subject, works.
This is a full sized design study, being sketched. Shot with the Nikon 1 V1 and the 6.7-13mm at the widest, which is 18mm equivalent.
There are some things to keep in mind while using this lens. It doesn’t seem to be as forgiving at the 10-30mm on the sharpness scale. For some reason it seems that I can get a sharper photo with less effort. Maybe I’m too lazy during the shoot - so I will have to shoot more to really determine if I have to adjust technique.
And, while indoors the lens is slow - slower than one would expect - but that is the way it goes - take it or leave it. Sharpening is applied in post ever so slightly, or the image looks overworked. I still have yet to print one of these — that will be this weekend to see how it looks.
Image was developed in LRoom in order to take advantage of the lens correction tools - something of which I can't do in ViewNX2. Although ViewNX2's development is superior with Nikon's secret sauce.
